Bus Story: Vocal Bludgeon

September 3, 2013

His shoulder-length greying hair brings to mind Elven kings and aging hair-band rockers. Eyebrows, with tendrils reaching to either side of his head, seem to be searching to make contact with the arboreal depths of hair emerging from his ears. Bright green eyes, piercing and full of judgement, peer out at the world. He has no conversation; only pronouncements. And no “inside voice”; but instead, a stentorian carnival barker’s boom. He declares which things are proper and which must be redressed. While he holds court in mid-bus, it is clear to me that, while the balloon-aviator held his throne for a time, the true Great and Powerful Oz is riding the “C” line and giving us all a headache.
