Bus Story: Ripple Effect

April 17, 2013

His voice is just a little too loud. Boarding the bus, the indictment of…well…everything…begins. He has to stand, the bus is too slow, the government is corrupt, the weather is too changeable, the roads are too bumpy, and his shoes are scuffed. These pronouncements, made in a stentorian tone, cause waves of anxiety throughout the ridership. Everyone wonders what will be next and how dramatically it will escalate. As each bellow of discontent happens, the crowd shifts uneasily and strangers catch each others’ glances, seeking solace in similar and rational reactions. These are the mornings when I wish The Blanket of Peaceful Napping was small enough to carry so I could fling it over his head, like covering a birdcage, and calm him down.
