Bus Story: Some Fiction Needs to Stay Put

November 19, 2010

Friday arrives. Matt Kearney is singing something vaguely uplifting in my ears and the chill in the air has increased. It’s not really that cold, but I decided to wear gloves and scarf just in case.  I wasn’t the only one. There is a young woman who has put together a look that I can’t help marvelling at. Knit cap, ragged looking leather-esque jacket, a shirt emblazoned with some long faded logo, a hoodie, fingerless gloves, really skinny black jeans, old army satchel, and sneakers that she clearly borrowed from a tramp who thought they were too gross for him.  I think she was going for Edgy Artist and managed to achieve Artful Dodger.  Although she may actually be a Dickensian waif and hopefully Bill Sykes is not making an appearance. I’ll make a hasty exit at this stop, just in case.
